Jessica Edom – Bachelor of Music (Hons)

Jessica is 24 years old, and an aspiring opera singer.  She is currently undertaking a two year masters degree at the Royal College of Music, involving song and oratorio classes, as well as learning French, German and Italian.

She developed a passion for singing and playing the piano during her teenage years, attaining Distinction Grade 5 in piano, and Distinction Grade 8 in singing with the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music.  She has performed and sung in many lead roles with local societies.

From a young age, Jessica has been involved in charity work with the Barnados Young Supporter competitions.

Noteworthy achievements during her career so far include:-

  • Soloist at Westminster Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral, St Paul’s Cathedral and Wembley Arena.
  • Singer of the Year and Musician of the Year at the Colchester Music Festival for three consecutive years.
  • Competing at the Rotary Music Festival, Great Britain and Ireland, placing fourth.
  • Competing at the Essex Young Musician of the Year, placing third.
  • Performing at the Royal Festival Hall.

Jessica’s ambition is to become an opera singer and classical music performer.

On hearing that she had been awarded a DRF Scholarship, Jessica said ” I am determined to maximise the opportunity I have been given, and will use my passion for singing to bring excitement, emotional communication and happiness to a range of audiences.  Music has enabled me to overcome personal hurdles, and I hope that I can open those doors to others. I am so excited to hear the news about the scholarship that the Trustees are offering and it will make a huge difference to further opportunities on my journey”.

The DRF wish Jessica every success, and will be following her with pride this year.  She clearly has talent for her chosen path.
