Cardiff Speedway

4th October 2019

Last week Ambassador Julia arranged an outing for Steve, one of our applicants.

As a lifelong follower of speedway, having watched West Ham, Hackney and Wimbledon amongst others in his youth, Steve asked if we could arrange a visit to the Speedway Grand Prix at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

With the help of Philip Rising, Managing Editor of the Speedway Star, who very kindly arranged Access All Areas passes, Steve, and his wife Jo, had a tour of the pits and went on the track to the starting gate.  Everyone was so kind and accommodating and happy to spend time talking. Steve got to meet, shake hands and chat with so many people, but the icing on the cake was meeting Ole Olsen, a former world champion and one of his heroes, who had a  good chat and shared a trip down memory lane.

Jo has said that Steve would like to personally thank the David Randall Foundation and Philip for arranging this for him.

“No words can express the gratitude he owes…..for getting him access to the pits, and going onto the track …  and to the starting gate is something he will treasure for the rest of his days.  Having the chance to talk to the great man himself (Ole Olsen) really made his day. All in all a wonderful day full of memories to treasure.”

And it doesn’t stop there as Philip is writing a piece for the next edition of the Speedway Star on Steve’s visit.

Be Inspired.
